M.D., Chief Compliance Officer

Dr. Jonathan Rubenstein was named Chief Compliance Officer for United Urology in 2018 after serving as Chief Compliance Officer and Director of Coding and Reimbursement of Chesapeake Urology, a member of United Urology’s group practices, since 2015. Dr. Rubenstein is a member of United Urology’s Executive Clinical Team.

Regarded as a national expert on healthcare coding and reimbursement, Dr. Rubenstein serves as Chair of the Coding and Reimbursement Committee (CRC) of the American Urological Association. Dr. Rubenstein was appointed by the American Medical Association (AMA) to represent the American Urological Association in the capacity of alternate AMA Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Advisor and in addition, is a Member of several other American Urological Association groups: Regulatory Affairs Committee; Telemedicine Committee; Electronic Health Records (HER) Work Group; and the Laparoscopic Robotic and New Surgical Technology Committee.

As Chief Compliance Officer, Dr. Rubenstein is responsible for the implementation, oversight, and updating of United Urology’s Compliance Plan, which protects physicians and staff, as well as patients, of the practice. His leadership role includes ensuring that billing practices are accurate and compliant with all rules and regulations, that the practice follows accepted medical guidelines and best practices, follows all insurer mandates and submits all claims properly.

Dr. Rubenstein has received numerous awards, published work in a number of medical journals and is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Rubenstein completed an Endourology and Laparoscopy Fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Baylor College of Medicine and his general surgery and urology training at Northwestern University Medical School. He is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
